April Ross
April Ross was one of the few female beach volleyball stars who won medals during more than one Olympics. Alix Klineman is the newest Olympian and will join her at Tokyo. Ross's goal is to win her first Olympic gold medal. In fact, at 39 this may be her last opportunity to accomplish this. The athlete is optimistic she will be able to win top awards. Ross on NBC Boston, said that when the team performs well or at all they could win a gold. It's also going to be the result of luck. Ross born in 1982 and was raised in Costa Mesa California with her mother and sister, first began participating in the sports of Newport Harbor High School. She was able to participate in a myriad of sports in Newport Harbor High School. Her prep athletic career included indoor volleyball, as well as basketball, running and track. She stood out however during this game. Through her high school years, she was a middle blocker outside hitter and setter in the court for volleyball as per her college bio. The award was presented to her as the Gatorade National Circle of Champions player of the year in 1999 for her achievements. In 2000, the Orange County Athlete of the Month was also received by her in volleyball. Ross and Klineman may have begun working together in the year 2017, however Ross had already been a seasoned player at the beach before they joined forces. The fact is, she's had numerous big wins and one partner was a volleyball superstar. Jennifer Kessy was her partner during six years from 2007 until 2013. Also, she coached Klineman and herself. Ross, Kessy's fellow teammate who was the winner of the world championship together with Kessy in 2009, also was an important player on the world stage. In the 2012 Olympic Games, they won the gold medal. Misty Maytreanor's legendary team and Kerri Jennings were the winners of gold. Ross Jennings replaced May-Treanor when she retired. They won the bronze medal in beach volleyball at the Rio Olympics 2016. Ross was a college player with the Trojans of USC prior to starting her professional career. She was a player in high school, as well as some years before she hit the beach professionally. Ross's time in the Trojans was impressive. In her first year at the school, 2000 saw her earn the Pac-10 and NCAA Freshman's of the Year awards and be an All-American. The Trojans made it to the Final Four. The second season of her career, she experienced a terrible personal loss, yet was able to be named an All-American. Over her final 2 years of participation in the Trojans program, she coached the team to win a national championship each year. In 2003-2004, she was named the top female volleyball player on the collegiate scene in America according to The Honda Sports Award. Ross took a course in the study of international relations in USC. Margie Ross was not able to witness Ross achieve beach volleyball's top level. Ross's mother died of breast cancer while she was in her sophomore year at USC. This meant that Ross is still close to her deceased parent. And Margie is an ongoing source of encouragement for her on the beaches and throughout her daily life.
